Sean Thomson is a dedicated coach who is passionate about teaching proper fundamentals and developing young athletes’ skills, confidence, and love for the game of basketball.

Professionally, Sean has spent more than 20 years as a high school history teacher at Lehigh Career and Technical Institute, where he has built a reputation for mentorship, leadership, and connecting with students both in and out of the classroom.

Sean brings extensive coaching experience at both the high school and youth levels. He spent over a decade as Head JV Coach and Assistant Varsity Coach at Saucon Valley High School, helping develop players and contribute to the program’s success. In 2017, after starting a family, Sean transitioned from high school coaching to focus on youth athletics and investing in the next generation of players.

Over the past nine years, Sean has coached youth basketball, soccer, and flag football with organizations including Bethlehem Little Canes (Liberty High School feeder program), Greater Lehigh Valley Athletics, Upward Sports, East Allen Soccer Club, and Bethlehem Soccer Club. His well-rounded coaching background reflects his commitment to developing athletes across multiple sports and skill levels.

As a player, Sean was a standout at Saucon Valley High School, where he competed on multiple Colonial League championship teams. He continued his basketball career at Bloomsburg University at the Division II level before a back injury cut his collegiate playing career short.

Sean is known for his positive energy, attention to detail, and ability to connect with players. His coaching philosophy centers on fundamentals, teamwork, and building a strong foundation that allows young athletes to grow both on and off the court.

Brittany Thomas brings an accomplished playing background and strong local ties to LV Steel. A standout at Catasauqua High School, Brittany was a dominant presence on the court, finishing her career as one of the program’s top players. She recorded over 1,000 career points, earned All-League honors, and was widely recognized for her scoring ability, court vision, and leadership.

She continued her playing career at the Division II level, East Stroudsburg University, where she competed at the collegiate level and further developed her all-around game. During her time at ESU, Brittany contributed as a versatile guard, known for her outside shot, basketball IQ, and ability to impact the game in multiple ways.

Following her playing career, Brittany has remained deeply involved in the Lehigh Valley basketball community. She currently coaches numerous youth basketball teams at Parkland Youth Center, helping young athletes develop their skills, confidence, and love for the game. She also serves as a sports commentator for Astound TV Network, providing analysis and insight for local high school basketball coverage.

Brittany also gained collegiate coaching experience as an assistant coach at Muhlenberg College, where she supported player development and contributed to the program’s success.

Known for her energy, basketball IQ, and ability to connect with players, Brittany is passionate about developing well-rounded athletes—both on and off the court. Her coaching emphasizes fundamentals, teamwork, and confidence, helping players reach their full potential in a positive and competitive environment.

Jimmy O’Brien is a dedicated youth basketball coach with a passion for developing young athletes both on and off the court. Over the past five years, he has coached multiple sports—including basketball, baseball, and flag football—bringing energy, structure, and a player-first mindset to every team he leads.

Jimmy O’Brien is a dedicated youth basketball coach with a passion for developing young athletes both on and off the court. Over the past five years, he has coached multiple sports—including basketball, baseball, and flag football—bringing energy, structure, and a player-first mindset to every team he leads.

Jimmy currently serves as Vice President of Saucon Valley Youth Basketball, where he plays an integral role in organizing and leading the travel, recreational, and 3v3 summer leagues. During his time with SVYB, his teams have achieved consistent success, capturing multiple championships, including the Sandi Riley Summer League and the Lehigh Valley Knee Hi Basketball League (LVKBL).

A former standout at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Jimmy served as team captain and earned All-Conference honors twice during his collegiate career. He brings that same competitive drive and leadership to his coaching today.

Jimmy’s philosophy centers on teaching the game the right way—emphasizing strong fundamentals, teamwork, accountability, and toughness. His goal is to help players grow into confident, disciplined athletes while fostering a love for the game.

 Nick Noto is a high-energy, passionate coach committed to developing young athletes both on and off the court. With more than a decade of coaching experience across basketball, football, soccer, flag football, and baseball, Nick encourages athletes to explore multiple sports at a young age to build well-rounded skills and a lifelong love of competition.

Within basketball, Nick has coached a core group of competitive players in the Parkland School District through the Schnecksville Playground Association (SPA) and Parkland Youth Center (PYC), consistently leading teams to Final Four appearances in the Lehigh Valley Knee High Basketball League (LVKBL).

Nick’s coaching philosophy centers on teaching the game the right way—emphasizing man-to-man defense, motion offense, hustle, teamwork, and sportsmanship. He believes that prioritizing fundamentals, effort, and accountability not only builds better players, but stronger individuals. Even through challenging moments, his player-first approach fosters long-term growth, confidence, and development.

A standout shooter at Voorhees High School in NJ and a contributor at Muhlenberg College, Nick brings both playing experience and a deep appreciation for the game to his coaching.

He is excited to build and develop the newly formed 5th grade team alongside Coach Jimmy O’Brien, helping lay the foundation for future success.

Board Members

Sean Thomson

Executive Director/Chairman

Sean is a high school history, government, & economics teacher at Lehigh Career & Technical Institute ("LCTI" the Lehigh County vo-tech school) in Schnecksville, PA.  Sean currently volunteers his time as a head coach with the Bethlehem Little Canes youth basketball program, Upward youth basketball program, the Bethlehem Soccer Club youth soccer program, and the Greater Lehigh Valley Athletics youth flag football program -- currently coaching youth between the ages of 4 and 11 in basketball, soccer, & flag football.  (See more information about Sean on the "Our Coaches" page.)

Maureen Thomson, CPA, CVA, MAFF

Secretary/Treasurer

Maureen Thomson is a licensed Certified Public Accountant in Pennsylvania and an accomplished finance executive with over 20 years of experience in public accounting, valuation, corporate strategy, corporate development (M&A), and taxes.  Maureen is currently CFO of East Coast Facilities, Inc. 


In addition to her professional career, Maureen is deeply committed to giving back to the Lehigh Valley community. She currently serves as a Trustee and Finance Committee Chair for the Foundation for the Bethlehem Area School District and as a Member and Assistant Secretary for the Bethlehem Area School District Authority.


As Co-Founder and Treasurer of LV Steel, Maureen oversees the organization’s financial operations with a strong emphasis on transparency, accountability, and integrity. She is committed to providing families with clear, consistent communication around club finances, including regular updates on expenditures and full visibility into how funds are used to support player development and program growth.


Maureen is passionate about creating opportunities for young athletes while ensuring the organization operates with the highest level of trust and financial stewardship.

Mission

The Lehigh Valley Steel Basketball Club ("LVSBC") is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt non-profit organization, located in Bethlehem, PA, organized for educational purposes and is committed to making a positive difference in the lives of student-athletes.   LVSBC was formed on 1/15/2024.


Our mission is to improve athletic and academic skills through athletic competition and training while enhancing important life skills such as teamwork, work ethic, self-discipline, respect, integrity, positive networking (relationship building), and good sportsmanship. The Club has age-group teams that will compete in AAU basketball tournaments and other basketball tournaments or leagues.

Board of Directors

I. Organization of the Board of Directors

A. The Board of Directors consists of 2-7 Positions: 

i. Executive Director/Chairman, 

ii. Secretary/Treasurer,

iii. and up to 5 additional members at large.

B. All members of the Board shall have voting rights.

C. Lehigh Valley Steel Basketball Club shall be managed by the Board of Directors.


II. Duties of the Board of Directors

A. Executive Director/Chairman

i. Calls to order business meetings of the Board of Directors.

ii. Conducts the Club’s business in an orderly fashion.

iii. Functions as tie-breaking vote when the vote count does not meet 3/4 majority.

iv. Serves as supportive resource for all committees.

v. Responsible for oversight and coordination of all basketball and Club operations.

vi. Investigates complaints and discipline concerns for the program. If any disciplinary action is to be considered, a committee of two will form a panel to hear the issues, make decisions, and report to the board.

vii. Responsible for recruitment/development/and retention of quality coaches.

viii. Responsible to nominate and present proposed coaches to the Board for the AAU Basketball season.

ix. Organizes the team tryout process and team player selection.

x. Coordination of the program candidates during registration and tryouts.

xi. Coordination of equipment or uniform dissemination to each team.

xii. Performs other such duties as from time to time may be assigned by the Chairman or the Board of Directors.

xiii. Serves as supportive resource for all committees.

xiv. Functions as tie-breaking vote when the vote count does not meet a 3/4 majority.


B. Secretary/Treasurer

i. Notifies the Board of Directors of business meetings.

ii. Prepares an agenda for each board meeting.

iii. Collects and disburses funds as operational necessity dictates.

iv. Manages bank accounts as necessary.

v. Keeps records of receipts and expenditures for the Club.

vi. Renders a statement of financial condition at business meetings.

vii. Assists in any approved fund-raising committees.

viii. Responsible for all tournament payments.

ix. Responsible for checking mail.

x. Coordinates and maintains all internal and external correspondences.

xi. Records minutes of all meetings.

xii. Oversees media/social media to include Website, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube.

xiii. Coordinates and manages all background checks, security clearances, and AAU registrations for the Club, non-athlete members, and athlete members.

xiv. Responsible for securing gym space for the AAU Basketball Club season.

xv. Responsible for selecting and ordering players and coaches uniforms and equipment.

xvi. Assists the Executive Director/Chairman in his/her duties.


C. At-Large-Member(s)

i. Performs duties from time to time may be assigned by the Executive Director/Chariman.

V. Election of New Board of Director Members

A. New members of the LVSBC Board are elected by a majority of the current Board members.

B. A vacancy on the Board will be filled as soon as possible.

C. Nominations of prospective members may be placed before the Board by any member considered in active standing. Nominations will be made in advance to the prospective member’s attendance.


VI. Committees

A. Committees may be formed for any specific purpose not contrary to the purpose of the LVSBC. All committees shall be appointed by the Board of Directors.


VII. General

A. No officer or other voting member of this club shall receive any fees for activities related to his or her official office in the Club.

B. Payment for any personal expenses other than mail or telephone costs must be approved by a majority of the Executive Board.

C. Any Board member has the authority to spend $100 without the approval of the Board for an item which promotes the mission of LVSBC. 

D. Receipts and documentation must be submitted by Board member for reimbursement of any expenses paid for or incurred on behalf of LVSBC.

E. The Board shall govern and administer the day-to-day operation of the association within the scope of the By-Laws and policy guidelines set by the Board.

F. The Board shall set policy guidelines and make amendments to the By-Laws.

G. The Board will decide any issues not covered under these By-Laws.

H. Once adopted, this By-Law document shall only be amended by a 3/4 vote of those present and voting at Board meetings.

Player Participation in the Club Program

The LVSBC is intended for players who desire to play basketball at a higher level of competition. These players must possess better-than-average individual basketball skills, must be coachable, and display the Club Values on and off the court.

Team Selection

A. Teams will be selected by invitation only.

B. Teams should have approximately 8 to 12 players.  (Adding more than 12 players to the roster will be the head coach's decision based on the schedules and availability of the existing players.)

C. Executive Director/Chairman and team coach(es) will evaluate the players during respective winter league games.

D. Team tryouts or evaluations (if necessary) may be held in February 2026.   (the tryout date may change pending gym availability and winter league playoff schedules)

E. Any player injured during or before the tryouts or unable to attend tryouts will be evaluated on previous experience or have an individual tryout session.

F. Confirmed & accepted team members are required to register with AAU as a youth-athlete member, associate with the LVSBC AAU club membership (AAU Club Code: UNXQDJ93K).  LVSBC will complete the AAU registration for all players and the fee will be included in the player fees.

Coach Selection

A. Candidates may be male or female. They should be at least 18 years of age and have Board approval. The candidates should have good knowledge of the game and possess good administrative and management skills, and follow the rules of the LVSBC Board.

B. LVSBC Board may interview each applicant and must select a coach for each AAU team. If there are not enough coaches to fill all of the positions, a committee will be required to recruit qualified individuals for those open positions.

C. Coaches are approved for the current season only and must be approved each year to continue in the Club.

D. The Board has the authority to terminate and replace coaches who exhibit inappropriate behaviors as determined by the Board. The coach has the right to appeal the decision at regular Board meetings.

E. Coaches are volunteers and are not compensated for their time.

F. Prospective coaches will be required to complete and submit clearance forms before coaching as follows:

• Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check

• Pennsylvania Department of Human Services Child Abuse Clearance

• FBI Criminal History Record (IdentGO)

G. Confirmed coaches are required to register with AAU as a non-athlete member, associate with the LVSBC AAU club membership (Club code: W3CAT5), and authorize required AAU background checks.
